This was a fine place but...
This is a really awesome apartment. The first time I went to visit it (along with the broker) I fell in love with it right away. Although after living there for a year, I probably wouldn't have moved here... This place has a really nice garden with lots of space! but sadly I wasn't able to use it much during the winter time. It's cold and I never wanted to sit outside sit outside, unless I had invested money in outdoor furniture and perhaps something to keep me warm. I had at most 5 months of cold winter where I didn't really step outside because it was cold. The door to the garden was glass, which leaked cold air in and made the main living space freezing in the winter. Overall, I figured that was a lot of real estate that I was paying for and wasn't really using. The apartment is fully electrified. you have your own boiler and you have to pay for the electricity it uses. So the electric bill was steep on the really hot summer and cold winter days. I don't think I was able to have my electric bill under $80 a month, and it would be as high as $200. This cost, plus the rent, and other fixed monthly costs I was looking at almost ~$2,800 a month. Thats a pretty steep price for a 1 bedroom in Hamilton heights. This place was net effective when I was there. At the time of signing my lease the broker told me they wouldn't increase my rent more that $100 at the end of your lease. At the time I wasn't sure what this "net effective" bs was all about and I trusted the guy. Almost a year later when my lease was up I got a letter on the mail from the management company that my new rent would be $2,700. I sent a few emails to the management company and spoke to them on the phone but didn't get anything in writing and decided to move out...
